Job Description:

• Preceptor Role Development: Assists others in their professional role development, practice role transitions, and succession planning. Supports the preceptor program and provides support at the unit level to the preceptor. Promotes certification and advanced formal education
• Collaborative Partnership: Promotes a supportive environment for students by collaborating with academic partners for student placement and a positive student experience. Implements the nursing professional development (NPD) initiatives demonstrating caring behaviors, respect, equity, inclusiveness and empathy in actions and interactions with others. Identifies opportunities for collaboration/partnership related to education and clinical practice. Effectively communicates and collaborates with relevant stakeholders related to professional development activities
• Research/Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)/Quality Improvement (QI): Serves as a resource for clinical inquiry process, including identification of potential projects, and/or subject matter expertise. The Nurse Educator for Surgical Services is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering clinical education and training programs for perioperative staff. This role supports competency validation, onboarding, continuing education, and evidence-based practice initiatives to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. The educator collaborates with leadership and interdisciplinary teams to identify learning needs, implement best practices, and promote professional development within surgical services.
This position will support both Bolingbrook and Glen Oaks, with responsibilities spanning the OR, Same Day Surgery, and PACU.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Effective professional communicator with strong interpersonal skills. [Required]
• Knowledge of the American Nurses Association (ANA)/Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) scope and standards for Nursing Professional Development. [Required]
• Working knowledge of word processing, data management, email, and presentation applications. [Preferred]
• Self-directed, creative, and demonstrates initiative to support the seven roles of the NPD practitioner: learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for the NPD specialty, and partner for practice transitions. [Preferred]
• Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, OSHA) for professional specialty served. [Preferred]
