JOB SUMMARY:
Perianesthesia encompasses the combined areas of Pre-op, PACU, and Post-op within the Surgical Services Department. The Perianesthesia Registered Nurse is professional position involving the performance of direct and indirect care with patients whose condition requires an intensive degree of nursing skills. The RN is part of collaborative management of a complex and varied surgical population. The RN provides comprehensive care for surgical patients who may also have underlying medical and psychosocial needs.
Critical concept thinking and comprehensive assessment skills are required to assimilate patient needs, establish priorities, and strive to achieve clinical outcomes. The Perioperative RN will rotate to all three areas within Perianesthesia: pre-op, post-op and PACU utilizing the nursing process in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic Perianesthesia care and provide an exceptional experience for the patient and family.
The 42 bed Same Day Unit provides the preoperative assessment and preparation for patients admitted the day of surgery. Our services include dental/oral surgery, general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology - ear, nose and throat, plastic and reconstructive surgery, urology.
The 24 bed Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) provides acute care for patients recovering from the effects of general or regional anesthesia.Â
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by State of employmentÂ
AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
At least one year of recent nursing experience in either perianesthesia, emergency department, surgical ICU, combined medical/surgical ICU, or surgical intermediate care
ACLS, PALS, and ASPAN/CAPA certifications
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently.
Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally.
Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.
Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.
Able to use hand for simple/firm grasping.
